# Custom Domain FAQ Guide (/integrations/managed-blog/custom-domain)





Your [managed blog](/integrations/managed-blog) lives on your own domain — for example, `blog.yoursite.com` — so every article builds authority for your brand, not ours. To switch it on, add the DNS records we give you wherever your domain is managed, then click **Verify**. You only do this once.

## Set it up [#set-it-up]

    ### Copy your DNS records [#copy-your-dns-records]

    Open **Settings → Blog** and find the **Domain & URL** card. Each record lists a **Name**, **Value**, and **Type** — use the copy button next to each one.

    ### Add them where your domain is managed [#add-them-where-your-domain-is-managed]

    Sign in to the company that manages your domain — GoDaddy, Namecheap, Domain.com, HostGator, DreamHost, or similar — and open its DNS settings. Add each record exactly as shown.

    ### Verify [#verify]

    Back in RapidWombat, click **Verify**. When the badge turns **Verified**, your blog is live on your domain and a secure connection (SSL) is switched on automatically.

### How long does it take? [#how-long-does-it-take]

DNS changes usually show up within a few hours, but allow 12–36 hours. If **Verify** doesn't succeed right away, try again later.

### Verify says my records aren't detected. What now? [#verify-says-my-records-arent-detected-what-now]

Check that each Name and Value matches the card exactly, with no extra spaces. Make sure you added them to the right domain, and remove any older record that uses the same name. Then wait a few hours and click **Verify** again.

### Which record type do I add? [#which-record-type-do-i-add]

Whichever the card shows. A blog on a subdomain like `blog.yoursite.com` uses a **CNAME** record; a blog on a root domain uses an **A** record.

### Do I need to buy an SSL certificate? [#do-i-need-to-buy-an-ssl-certificate]

No. Once your domain is verified, RapidWombat secures it with a managed certificate that renews automatically.

### Will this affect my main website or email? [#will-this-affect-my-main-website-or-email]

No. The records only point your blog's address to RapidWombat. Your main site and email keep working as they do today.

### I don't know where my DNS is managed [#i-dont-know-where-my-dns-is-managed]

It's usually the company you bought the domain from. If someone else set up your website, ask them — adding the records takes a couple of minutes.
